Rye Harbour Nature Reserve Fledgling Rangers (01/03/25) Saturday, 1st March 2025 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Our Fledgling Rangers Programme is available to anyone aged 12-16yrs who wishes to gain their first experience of volunteering for a wildlife charity. It is a great opportunity for young people to take action for wildlife in Sussex and improve their understanding of the working world and the charity sector.

Course Tutor: Aimi Rifat – Wilder Learning and communities Officer, Rye Harbour Discovery Centre

The programme will involve:

  • Taking part in country-wide citizen science projects like the Great Eggcase Hunt
  • Participating in practical conservation tasks on the reserve and learning about the role of a ranger.

What you need to know:

  • The programme will run from 1st March to the end of May 2025
  • There are 6 Saturday sessions which you will need to attend from 10-1pm
  • You do not need to have any prior experience, all training will be provided

Our Fledgling Rangers programme meets the volunteering section requirements of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If all spaces are sold out, please sign up to the waiting list and we will contact you if a space becomes available.

Location: Meet at Rye Harbour Car Park for the first session

Public transport: How to find us | Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. The 313 Stagecoach bus travels from Northiam to Rye train station and on to Rye Harbour village.

Booking essential: We’ll send further joining instructions after booking and ask if anyone has additional needs. Scroll down for tickets.

What to bring/wear: Please wear suitable outdoor clothing/footwear, and sun protection, for the weather conditions.

Accessibility: Our outdoor activities may not always be suitable for those with restricted mobility. If this might be an issue, contact us before booking and we'll do our best to support you. Our toilet facilities will be available, if needed, at the beginning and end of the session.
