Join our experienced birder and guide, James Duncan, on a 2-mile circular walk to look out for a whole host of migratory visitors arriving to feast on our shores.

Whilst the majority of our summer visitors like Swallows, martins and warblers have left, many of our winter migrants have already arrived. October typically sees influxes of flocks of finches and thrushes from the East, and many types of duck and goose looking to overwinter here.

It may seem a quiet season for birds, but the mild and predictable winters in Sussex make it attractive to many visitors. From Brambling to Brent Goose, from Redwing to Redpoll, from Waxwing to wading bird: Most arrive here to escape freezing Arctic conditions and to feast upon easy-to-find food.

This event is suitable for beginners, as well as those looking to improve their birding skills. There'll be opportunities to ask questions as we walk. Binoculars are highly recommended.

Public Transport: The 313 Stagecoach bus travels from Northiam to Rye train station and on to Rye Harbour village.

Accessibility: Our gently-paced walk will start and end at Rye Harbour Discovery Centre, a wheelchair-friendly venue, with a step-free entrance ramp. Our toilet facilities include two that are wheelchair accessible, and we will be no more than a mile away from the Discovery Centre facilities on the walk. Most of the route is easy for wheelchairs, and the bird hides are accessible. However a section has some uneven and loose surfaces, making it moderately difficult for manual wheelchairs.
