Dragonfly and Damselfly guided walk with James Duncan - Rye Harbour (30/09/24) Monday, 30th September 2024 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM

During the summer and autumn, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve comes alive with flashes of colour from many dazzling insects. We’ll head off around the hedgerows, ditches and reedbeds looking for deadly dragons and iridescent damsels, many of which have remained virtually unchanged for millions of years.

Discover more about these prehistoric predators from Sussex Wildlife Trust’s expert guide, James Duncan. He’ll show you the differences between a dragonfly and damselfly, what features to look out for and tell you about their life cycles.

Join us for a flat, circular walk of approximately 4km (2.5 miles), starting out from Brede Lock. If the weather isn't suitable for spotting these insects, James will give a shorter illustrated talk indoors at Rye Harbour Discovery Centre (just a mile up the road from Brede Lock) with refreshments included

Location: Meet at Brede Lock, 50m from the junction of Harbour Road and Winchelsea Road, TN31 7UG. Car parking available nearby, on the A259 - The Strand (Winchelsea Road). What 3 Words location - lavished.tile.fish

What to bring: Binoculars can be handy for dragonflies.

Accessibility: Moderately difficult route for manual wheelchairs with some uneven and loose surfaces. The paths around the reedbed can get very wet and muddy after rain which may make them inaccessible for mobility scooters and wheelchairs.
