Making Nature Count. Wildlife recording in Sussex and the work of Sussex Biodiversity Record Centre Thursday, 15th April 2021 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

In Sussex there is an incredibly active and energetic network of people involved in monitoring and recording our county’s wildlife, including volunteers from wildlife recording groups and societies as well as individual naturalists and wildlife enthusiasts. We call them the Sussex biological recording community. Collectively, this community generates hundreds of thousands of wildlife records every year – constantly adding to our collective knowledge of Sussex’s species and habitats.

For more than 20 years, Sussex Biodiversity Record Centre (SxBRC) has worked in partnership with this amazing volunteer community to collate, verify and manage all of these records: turning biological data into easily accessible information services which help to inform planning policy and decision-making as well as nature conservation initiatives across the county.

In this talk Clare Blencowe, manager of SxBRC and an enthusiastic biological recorder herself, will share some stories from the Sussex biological recording community, explain how you can get involved, and provide an overview of how this information is used in SxBRC’s services.

The talk will last for approximately 45 minutes and there will be a short Q&A session at the end.

This talk is free but donations to assist the work of Sussex Wildlife Trust would be appreciated. There will be an opportunity to donate at the end of the talk. If you're not already a Sussex Wildlife Trust member please consider joining us to support our wildlife conservation work across Sussex.
