Introduction For the majority of our “regulars”, Rye Harbour will be a very long drive and so some car sharing may be appropriate. Please contact Terry Wills ([email protected]) if you are interested in car sharing.

Meet in good time for a 9.45 departure from the information kiosk at the entrance to the main harbour car park next to the Martello Tower (Explorer Map 125: TQ 943189). The nearest postcode is TN31 7TX. Car parking is free; however, a donation would be gratefully received. There are good public toilets next to the car park. Close by is a little café called Bosun Bites (opposite the Lifeboat Station) for anyone seeking refreshments before leaving.

We will be exploring the southern part of the Nature Reserve using a network of good, level, paths with no stiles. The landscape is very exposed so please come with suitable clothing. The area has been designated as a Local Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Protection Area, a Special Area of Conservation, a Natura 2000 site AND a Ramsar wetland centre! The length of the morning walk will be no more than three miles and the afternoon walk will be only a mile and a half: this will allow us plenty of time to look at the coastal flowers and, in particular, the birds for which the Reserve is renowned. On both walks we will be accompanied by an expert birder from Kent who will assist in the identification of the more unusual birds. Binoculars are strongly recommended

Lunch will be at The Inkerman Arms in Harbour Road about 12.45. Details for pre-ordering will be sent out in good time and added to this information in due course.
