Winter Owls at Rye Harbour (06/02/2020) Thursday, 6th February 2020 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Join us as we set out to explore Rye Harbour in this most demanding of seasons. This is a great time of year to observe owls on the hunt. Owls are fascinating in both their ecology and mythology, revered by the ancient Greeks as a symbol of wisdom, feared by the Romans who saw them as harbingers of death. We'll look to try and observe this magnificent avian predator, whilst learning more about their captivating lives. Our afternoon walk of approximately 4km should also give the opportunity to observe a multitude of wading birds as they congregate to roost.

Binoculars are recommended, though we will have a few pairs available on the day. Please make sure to bring suitable clothing as it is very exposed out on the reserve. 

Meet at Rye Harbour Discovery Centre, just a short walk from Rye Harbour village car park (next to the Martello Tower). The nearest postcode is TN31 7TX and the harbour itself is two miles SE of Rye town.

NOTE: If you’re walking from Rye (the railway station) to Rye Harbour, there is a footpath from Brede Lock (on Harbour Road) along an old railway line that avoids walking the whole length of the road.
