Woods Mill 50: Tawny Owl Survey Training (06/09/18) Thursday, 6th September 2018 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM

The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) are looking for help in recording the effects of urbanisation upon Tawny Owls. The impact of increasing artificial light pollution on their behaviour is actually little understood and particularly how it influences our ability to detect them. The owls are reliant on vocalisations throughout their breeding season - a previous BTO survey in 2005/06 discovered that the time of day, the cycle of the moon and the weather all affected their calling behaviour.

Join us at Woods Mill to learn just how to undertake this survey, including all the resources necessary to help identify Tawny Owl calls. The evening will begin with a short classroom session followed by time on the reserve spent looking and listening for them. Instructions will be given on the day and the survey can then be carried out from the 30th September.
