Walk - Everyone Welcome (08/07/17) Saturday, 8th July 2017 9:45 AM - 3:30 PM

Meet in good time for a 9.45 departure from The Roebuck Inn, Lewes Road, Laughton, BN8 6BG (theroebuckinn.pub). Explorer Map 123: Grid Reference TQ 502131

The pub is situated facing Laughton village green on the B2124 midway between Lewes and Hailsham. The car park is in front and also at the back of the pub. We are hopeful that the pub will be open before we start the walk, more details will be given nearer the time.

Directions: Travelling east on the A27 to Lewes take the A26 (signposted London, Uckfield). Follow the A26 for about a mile and a half then turn right onto the B2192 (signposted Ringmer, Heathfield). Continue on the B2192 through Ringmer then fork right on to the B2124 continue to Laughton for just under 3 miles and the Roebuck Inn will be found on the left-hand side facing the village green.

The morning walk is about four miles long and there are no stiles. The terrain is flat with wonderfully straight, wide paths. The walk will take us through Laughton Common Wood and Lower Vert Wood. These are ancient broadleaf woodlands rich in species (now also including introduced conifer species). This area is a haven for butterflies with many species* reported at different times. The habitat is also good for damselflies, dragonflies and bird species. We aim to return to the pub for 12.30 p.m.

We aim to depart the pub at around 2 pm. The short afternoon walk through mixed woodland and open countryside is about two and a half miles with good paths and no stiles. We will proceed in a westerly direction through Brickhurst Wood then on to open pasture with a stop at the village pond before returning to the Roebuck.
