Pagham Harbour Walk - Everyone Welcome (14/01/17) Saturday, 14th January 2017 9:45 AM - 3:00 PM

Meet in good time for a 9:45 start from the RSPB Pagham Harbour Visitor Centre, Selsey Road, Sidlesham, West Sussex, PO20 7NE(Explorer Map 120: SZ 857966). From the A27 at Chichester take the B2145 south towards Selsey. Turn left approximately 200 yards beyond Sidlesham into the RSPB visitor centre. Please park in the overflow car park and note that the RSPB would welcome a donation for parking.

It is possible to buy tea/coffee/soup from a vending machine in the Centre, and toilets are also available. Pagham Harbour is one of the premier bird watching areas in Sussex particularly at this time of year.

After a short talk from one of the RSPB team members at the Centre, we shall walk towards Sidlesham Quay and then along the edge of the intertidal saltmarsh, to the Pagham Wall (North Wall). There will be ample opportunities to view birds, in particular waders and geese, which will be moving in closer due a high tide at 12:30.

Due to the incoming tide, we shall walk back inland where we are likely to encounter some muddy paths so please ensure that you have appropriate footwear. The morning walk is approximately 4.5 miles on the level, but can easily be shortened depending on the weather.

We will drive from the RSPB Centre to The Seal pub in Selsey (www.the-seal.com) for lunch at about 13:00.

If there is interest and sufficient day light, there is an opportunity to stop at Church Norton (just south of the Visitors Centre) for a short afternoon walk along the west side of the estuary. This is an excellent area for seeing a wide variety of birds.
