Walk - Everyone Welcome

Meet in good time for a 9.45 departure from The Seal, 6 Hillfield Rd, Selsey, Chichester, PO20 0JX, www.the-seal.com (Explorer Map 120 *: SZ 852927). The pub is nearly at the end of the B2145 on the right hand side of the road if travelling south, soon after the turning to West Street.

The Seal will be open before we leave and the landlady has kindly agreed that we may use their toilet facilities and tea or coffee will be served for those who want it. Lunch will be ordered before we leave.

The morning walk takes us along the coast to the Breach Viewpoint of the newly created RSPB Medmerry Reserve. In 2013 the sea wall was deliberately breached to create an area of wetland with the main aim being to prevent flooding in the Selsey area.

This is one of the most significant ventures of its kind and we will be joined by a member of the RSPB’s Pagham and Medmerry team who will explain how the site came into existence, how it has developed so far and the plans for the future. The morning walk is flat, without stiles, and about three miles long.

We will aim to return to The Seal about 12.30 for lunch. Departure from the pub will be around 14.00 and we will make a short drive to a car park between Earnley and Almodington. The afternoon walk (a little shorter than the one in the morning) is also flat and without stiles. We will explore the western side of the Medmerry Reserve including the Earnley Viewpoint and the Stilt Pools.
