Young Wildlife Scientists Project

There are many wildlife recording projects both local and national that young people can get involved with these days, from the Big Garden and Big Schools Birdwatch to Nature’s Calendar and the Buzz Club, and all of these projects aim to involve people in gathering vital information about the state of our wildlife. But getting out there to start recording often requires equipment…..

So after a successful bid to the Gatwick Airport Community Trust for some essential kit we are kicking off a Young Wildlife Citizen Scientists project in the Gatwick Greenspace area to help children & young people learn about, identify & record wildlife. As well as using the kit with our existing groups were are able to loan out the following equipment to schools, local natural history groups, volunteer groups:

  • Pond dipping kit
  • Sweep netting kits
  • Moth trap
  • Remote trail camera
  • Digital microscope
  • Hand lenses
  • Magnifying & sample pots
  • Identification charts

So whether you are a school carrying out a wildlife project in your grounds, a local Wildlife Watch or Natural History group working with young children, or even just a family wanting to find out what’s in your garden, if borrowing some field equipment and getting some support from Tom Forward our People & Wildlife Officer will help you enjoy recording wildlife in your area, please get in touch to find out more.
