Wildlife Walks, Talks and Courses in June 2019

May was a mixed month weather-wise. I was scraping ice off my windscreen as I left for the early morning Dawn Chorus walk on 6 May but as the temperature started to rise the county’s wildlife came out in force to enjoy the sunshine. Our migrant birds seemed a bit late coming back this year but now they are all in and June provides a great opportunity to get out and look (and listen) for them.  
 
We are running plenty of guided wildlife walks to help you get out and experience some of the wildlife of Sussex. Whether you want to see some new species, explore a new part of the county or just get out in the fresh air these walks are for you. Join us in June!

Phew! That should keep us busy! On top of all these walks Sussex Wildlife Trust are running their busy programme of wildlife courses throughout the month giving you a chance to learn more about some of the county’s amazing wildlife and habitats. 

15 June: Identification and Natural History of Bumblebees and Other Bees at Sompting Barn
22 June: An Introduction to Dragonflies and Damselflies at Woods Mill near Henfield
29 June: Ecology of Chalk Downland at Steyning
29 June: Mindfulness in Nature at Woods Mill near Henfield
 
And we also have some special events in June for those of you who want to get close to nature. On 8 June learn more about our eight-legged friends at our Spectacular Spiders event at Rye Harbour. We’ll be taken part in the Seaford Open Gardens event on 9 June so come along and learn how you can attract more wildlife into your garden with some simple gardening tips. We’re staying in Seaford for an event on 10 June: Rockpooling for Grown-ups (because why should the children have all the fun?!). On 12 June please join us for a Beach Clean at Littlehampton improving the coast for wildlife and people. June is a busy month for our moths so find out what we have in our moth traps at events on 14 June (Woods Mill) and 30 June (Rye Harbour). We’ll be looking out for bats at an event at Seven Sisters on 20 June. 

I’d like to think we could all take July off to recover but that’s when things start to get REALLY exciting! Hope to see you out in the sunshine at some point in June.
