It may be frosty outside but there is still plenty of wonderful wildlife to see across Sussex. Many birds consider Sussex to be a balmy winter break compared to their frozen homelands in Scandinavia and during February you’ll have the perfect opportunity to watch them before they head back to the continent. It seems that our members are a hardy bunch too as many of our February events are already fully booked. We have recently added a lot of events and courses onto the ‘What’s On’ section of our website so be sure to look ahead through 2019. Not all events require booking but for those that do we advise you book early.

It's World Wetlands Day on 2 February and our Rye Harbour reserve is an internationally important site for wintering waders and wildfowl. Join us for a walk here when we’ll also be looking out for Marsh Harrier and Bittern. We will also be exploring the Castle Water area of the reserve on 17 February. 

Over at our Woods Mill headquarters we’ll be leading a winter walk around the reserve on 9 February. Also at Woods Mill there’s a chance to Build a Bird Box at our family event on 16 February and there are three opportunities to Build Bird Box at Rye Harbour on 19 February. If you’d like to get your family even more involved with wildlife and conservation in 2019 we have a special event at Seven Sisters on 20 February – a taster session to encourage you to Re-Wild your family.

On 28 February the Eastbourne Sussex Wildlife Trust group will be leading a walk along the Cuckmere Haven – another great site for wintering waders and wildfowl. Further along the coast we have aBeach Clean on 28 February on Worthing Beach. We all know about the dangers that rubbish and plastics pose to marine life so this is your chance to do your bit to help.
