Wildlife Walk at Seaford Head

As I drove across to Seaford Head for last week's wildlife walk the heaven's opened and the windscreen-wipers were on double-speed. When I arrived at Sefaord I stayed in the car and watched a linnet taking a bath in a puddle and, like him, prepared myself for a proper soaking.


But the rain departed and under grey skies a crowd of keen naturalists gathered for a walk around the reserve.

There was plenty of bird song as we entered Hope Gap with common whitethroats being the most vociferous. At the cliffs we watched acrobatic fulmars, stonechats and rock pipits. We were lucky to find a beautiful adder who posed for photographs.

The hawthorn bushes were being munched by an invading army of brown-tail moth caterpillars and there were some beautiful green-winged orchids on the path back to the car park. Thankyou to everyone who joined me for the walk.
