Wildlife Rangers at Rye Harbour!

Wildlife Rangers is a group aimed at 12-16 year olds that meet regularly at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. The group get involved with a variety of practical conservation tasks, creative activities and surveys in order to take action for wildlife.

They spend most of the time in the great outdoors, having fun, learning new skills and making friends, in addition to making a difference to the work of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

So far the Wildlife Rangers have been involved in managing the grassland areas in the outdoor classroom, examining owl pellets, preparing willow resources for crafting events, setting camera traps, gathering and spreading wildflower seeds. This year we are planning on building a hibernaculum (place for reptiles to hibernate over winter), creating a wildflower meadow area, learning more about wildlife photography and filming, and also working towards gaining the John Muir Discovery Conservation Award.

Many of our group are involved with the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) awards at school, and we can provide the volunteer hours that they need to complete this.

Our Wildlife Rangers meet on the first Saturday of each month from March-December, 10am-2.30pm; also one morning per week in the school holidays, and this summer we will be holding a 5 day holiday scheme from Tuesday 2nd – Saturday 6th August.
