We speak to Huw Morgan, Wilder Communities Team Manager

Tell us a bit about yourself 

I’m the Wilder Communities team manager, and my role is to support the team in their work with a wide variety of community groups and projects to help more people in Sussex take action for wildlife. 

I’m also out and about working with groups and I run the Brighton Hit Squad volunteers once a month on a Saturday morning. I’ve been working with the Trust for 16 years starting off with a role at the Gatwick Greenspace Partnership, before becoming project officer for Brighton & Hove for 10 years.

What's the Community Map about?

The Community Map was set up to make it easy to find out what was going on in your local area and to promote the work that these fantastic volunteer groups do across the county. Despite our best efforts, Sussex Wildlife Trust can’t offer volunteering opportunities in every part of the county so the idea is that someone keen to get involved with conservation can find a project close to home to support rather than having to travel to a Sussex Wildlife Trust reserve or group miles away. 

It allows us in the Wilder Communities team to have a good idea of what’s on offer and point people in the right direction when they get in touch.

Who should get in touch and how?

We’re always looking for new groups to get in touch and be added to the map, the more the merrier. If you’re a keen, active group helping people take action for wildlife, then you fit the criteria and we’re keen to hear from you.
