West Dean Woods Open Day

This Saturday (April 30th) the Sussex Wildlife Trust will be holding an Open Day at the Nature Reserve at West Dean Woods, near Chilgrove, between Midhurst and Chichester. The reserve is well known for its wild daffodils but at this time of year it is the bluebells and wood anemones that provide the most spectacular displays. Woodland birds and butterflies also abound at this nature reserve and it is hoped visitors will also have the chance to see red kite and buzzard patrolling the skies.

This is a working reserve, where volunteers coppice two acres of hazel every year and public access is limited. Sussex Wildlife Trust opens the reserve occasionally so that its members and the public are able to take a closer look at the work carried out. You will be able to meet staff and the dedicated volunteers who manage the reserve throughout the year – hopefully there will be plenty of wildlife to see too. Well known naturalist and author Richard Williamson will also be leading guided walks around the reserve throughout the day.

As parking is extremely limited we will be running a complimentary lifts in our Landrover from West Dean Gardens car park. Visitors will be able to utilise the Gardens Restaurant, shop and toilet facilities and also be able to visit the gardens and house.

The event will run between 11:00 and 16:00 on the 30 April.

    Just wondering if we can put my name down and that of my 13 year old son Matt. We volunteer with the Wayerly countryside volunteers on weekends and Wednesdays in the holidays. Matt is a good worker and loves it. We also do Woofing holidays…We love in Farnham so are not too far away…and it looks like you only have open days or open volunteer days once or twice a year….just looked beautiful. Regards, Jean
