Tell us a bit about yourself

I am delighted to be here in the Discovery Centre, in the role of acting Centre Manager, working with such a fantastic team.

For the past ten years I have worked in events and retail, the last five I have been running a successful flower workshop business that took me across the UK on large events. I live near the centre of Hastings and spend much of my spare time walking my dogs along the stunning local coast.

How's it going in the Discovery Centre?

The role is extremely varied and I am loving the new challenge.

What's coming up?

Our priority in the shop is to make sure we offer visitors a range of wildlife books, for all ages and levels of knowledge, to help them understand what they're seeing on the reserve.. I suspect many people may not realise how much varied and amazing wildlife we have, because I certainly didn’t.

We will be stocking lots of educational games, toys and books for children, as well as beautiful wildlife themed gifts, such as bird feeders, wildflower seed balls, hedgehog houses etc. We will also be offering homeware such as lovely blankets and tea towels and lots of sustainable items.

Visitors have always loved locally-made crafts and the terrific prints and greeting cards produced by talented local artists, so there will be lots of those.

We are also collaborating with local artists to organise future exhibitions in the centre.

Any events in November?

Yes! We have two craft fairs in November, on the 20th & 21st November, from 10am-4pm. Saturday 20th will be the largest one.

We will have lots of stalls from local craftspeople offering all kinds of exciting produce. It will be great for stocking up on Christmas presents.

We are also putting a Christmas schedule together now and we plan to link up with and support all the great events taking place in the wonderful town of Rye.

We are very grateful to everyone for all of their support this year, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people in the shop and café in the coming months
