Every Wednesday morning at 9.45am, a group of familiar faces gather at the bus stop in Rye Harbour village. If you were to walk past at this time, you would hear the unmistakable sound of cheerful chitter-chatter; most of the group have been walking together for the last two years, so there's lots to catch up on.

Our Wednesday Wellbeing Walks have been a big hit from day one and, although we don't want this to turn into an article from a science journal, we think this is down to it creating the perfect conditions for the neurotransmitters in the brain. That might sound odd, but when you understand that three of the key components to boosting endorphins and dopamine (the happy hormones) are being outdoors, exercise and socialising, it's not hard to see why. 

I caught up with some of the group, to hear what it is about this special 90 minutes, that brings them back each week: 

“I've had the opportunity to be part of a really inclusive and supportive group"

“I have met some inspirational people who teach us more about life each week"

"It gives me exercise, company and birdwatching with knowledgeable people”

“It gives a sense of belonging. A chance to find out more, gain knowledge and feel part of the reserve”

“It’s a good start to the day and helps me feel good for the rest of the day"

“It gets me out of the house, meeting different people"

“Fresh air and a nice leisurely pace. It's really sociable too”

“I appreciate the expertise of the leaders"
