Volunteers at Seaford Head Nature Reserve

Many thanks to members of Seaford Natural History Society who came along to help clear scrub near Hope Gap last week. The rare moon carrot plant (shown at the top of this page) grows here but is in danger of being shaded out by the advancing scrub. We started clearance last winter and will continue to remove small areas of privet and blackthorn each year.

Two of our regular monthly volunteer group, joined by Carolyn a resident of the Coastguard Cottages, gave me a hand to remove a huge pile of rubbish collected by our numerous beach cleaners. It was mostly rope and nets from the fishing industry but also plastic containers and rubbish washed in from the sea.
