This week's final "30 Days Wild" is shared between time in the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District and a return to my favourite wild places in the south. For me there is something very special about the Uplands of Britain. Whether it's that greater sense of remoteness and tranquillity, the views and feeling of accomplishment when you gain the summit of a particular peak .. or the anticipation that the wildlife here will be different: it all adds to our enjoyment of the Natural World.

The Dales provided stunning views with endless meadows of golden Buttercups. Here I witnessed a stoat hunting in the crevices within the limestone walls and Dipper and Yellow Wagtails bobbing in the streams. A brief rest atop of Malham Cove afforded an opportunity to remind us all of the need to redouble efforts to protect and restore these special places and nature generally. The Peak District provided yet more riches - the liquid, bubbling call of Curlew whilst a Little Owl, perched in the open necessitated a sudden halt on the journey South in order to meet its intense yellow eyed glare.

Forays North meant that I had yet to visit the new Visitor Centre at Rye Harbour. This stunning Discovery Centre now matches the excellence of the wildlife. Great coffee, fantastic food and friendly staff. I enjoyed a coffee ( and a cake ) watching Avocets through the panoramic windows ; having previously enjoyed highlights of Hobby, Black Necked Grebe, Little Tern and Green Sandpiper on my Rye visit.
