Tangled up in slow-worms

I've been trying to untangle this photo of slow-worms sent in by Sue Elliot. I'm not entirely sure exactly how many there are.

Sue says: "Thought you'd be interested to see this photo I took today. I keep an old, black, heavy dustbin lid on my compost heap for slow worms to warm themselves under, but have never seen so many in one go. I had to be quick to get the shot - as soon as they realised their cover was blown, they slid back down their holes!"
