Saltmarsh Saturdays and the #26 habitats project

The Wildlife Trusts have been running a project about 26 habitats, which was commissioned with a group of writers to coincide with the critically important global climate change conference COP26 being held in Glasgow in November.

One of the habitats chosen was saltmarsh. Reserve Manager Barry Yates and I shared some information about our saltmarsh at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve with Sarah Farley, its particular species and ecosystem, to use in her writing.

Sarah then wrote a poem of 100 words, or centena, and an essay about Saltmarsh for the #26Habitats. See both of those here.

Sarah's poem and writing reflect yet another aspect of this unique area echoed in the Rye Arts Festival poetry trail works that were installed around the reserve in September. Through this collaboration we have also made clear the link to climate change and mitigation that we feature in our education visits and Saltmarsh Saturday walks.
