The wonderful wildlife artist who designed the Discovery Centre Golden Plover wall Robert Greenhalf is featured in a new, illustrated book, called Tidelines.

Borago Press has produced a new book about his work. Robert is one of the foremost wildlife artists of his generation and for more than forty years he has drawn and painted the birds of Britain and further afield. The book is illustrated with over 50 full colour examples of Robert’s work and is available from the Rye Harbour Discovery Centre, where Robert currently has an exhibition.

Tidelines shows a wide range of Robert’s work. It takes the reader through preparatory sketches, to the lengthy process of creating oils and woodcuts and covers his love of working outdoors, often at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. “For me, sketching outside is vital,” Robert explained. “It’s a way of experiencing nature directly. I can’t see the point of sitting at home copying a photograph: it’s all about getting out there.” 

Influenced by Japanese printers, Robert is best known for his woodcuts, which capture the waders and woodland birds of his home on the Sussex coast. Robert’s work appears in collections around the world.
