New Nature Tots group in Ardingly

Summer is in full swing and Sussex Wildlife Trust is looking forward to welcoming children aged 3-5 to ‘go wild in the woods’ with outdoor family fun and games at their newest Nature Tots group in Standgrove Woods, Ardingly.

Forest School Leader, Paula will pack her Tuesday morning sessions with exciting seasonal activities; from bug hunting to den building, exploring the woodland for signs of summer, toasting snacks around the campfire and creating works of art from natural materials - it’s amazing how much muddy mayhem she and the Tots will achieve in two hours!

Paula said: ‘We encourage the children to try as much of the task as they can for themselves, and the accompanying adult’s role is to keep a watchful eye, but stand back and let them have a go. It is such a pleasure to watch the Tots learn by doing hands-on crafts and grow in confidence as the weeks go by – and parents are often amazed at how resourceful and capable their children can become.

‘I’m always impressed by the can-do attitude of a new starter learning to handle a bowsaw safely for the first time, but some children take a little longer to join in and learn the woodcraft skills, and that’s exactly what the sessions are all about – building their self-esteem, physical co-ordination and social skills through child-led achievable challenges.’
