New moth to Sussex discovered at Woods Mill

A moth new to Sussex has been discovered at our headquarters at Woods Mill.

On the morning of 2nd July an attractive looking Coleophora species was potted from the moth trap and as Coleophora species can be difficult to identify this one was passed to Tony Davis from Butterfly Conservation who has identified it as Coleophora frischella, a nationally notable species that inhabits grassy area where its foodplant, clover, is abundant. Colin Pratt, the county moth recorder, has confirmed that this is the first Sussex record for this species.
