How you are helping wildlife

We recently asked you what actions you’d taken to help wildlife in your local area. Hundreds of you replied and it was amazing to see all of the fantastic things you’ve been doing to help wildlife near you. We saw some common themes in your responses. Lots of people have:

  • Taken part in No-Mow May and left parts of their garden to grow wild
  • Provided water for birds and animals
  • Litter picked when out and about in their local area
  • Planted wildflower seed in their gardens
  • Become a member of Sussex Wildlife Trust
  • Recorded and reported their wildlife sightings
  • Put up bird boxes
  • Created a wildlife pond
  • Taken part in citizen science surveys such as The Big Butterfly Count
  • Fed local birds
  • Volunteered with local wildlife organisations

Here’s just a few of your comments:

"I stopped mowing my lawn in May and have been amazed at the number of wildflowers that appeared!”

“We have increased the number of places where water is available and ensure that they are constantly topped up.”
“I litter pick every day when I walk my dog on the nature reserve near my house.”
“Made a small pond in my garden. The birds love it!”
