Future of transport in Sussex - please help

We need you to help wildlife again – Deadline 10 January 2020.

The science is clear, climate change is the biggest threat to biodiversity and in the UK, transport is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions and is the only sector where emissions are still rising! 

You may not be aware that there is a very important consultation happening right now about a new regional transport strategy that could really make a change.

This strategy will have an important role to play in bringing about a low carbon future where we live and work. The body who drafted it – Transport for the South East – have acknowledged the need for more sustainable, low carbon transport options. However, their draft strategy does not do enough to make this happen in the time frame needed, whilst we are in a time of a climate and ecological emergency.

The Sussex Wildlife Trust is working as a member of the South Coast Alliance on Transport and the Environment (SCATE) to make sure as many people as possible respond to the consultation.

Friends of the Earth, also a member of SCATE, has created a draft letter to make it easier for people to respond.  

Please could you take a couple of minutes to send in a response to ask for transport which gives us all a cleaner and healthier future. And please could you share this with friends and colleagues?

    We need strong incentives for small, efficient cars and personal transport and roads fit for them, and for cycles and motorcycles (again, small and efficient). Poor roads lead to damaged vehicles, high fuel driving, and highly polluted footpaths. Buses are hopeless in all but built up urban areas – and there, they MUST be low emission.

    Need more reliable, frequent and affordable buses especially for rural passengers – roads are gridlocked mostly with single passenger cars.
