On Thursday 23rd February we hosted two events. In the morning thirteen members of the group enjoyed a walk along the Cuckmere from Exeat down to the beach. We focused on the bird life and despite the squally showers we managed to see a total of 32 species. Highlights included Wigeon, Teal, Redshank, Oystercatcher, Curlew, Stonechat, Reed Bunting, Little Grebe, Grey Heron and Shelduck.

In the evening over 70 people gathered in the Eldon Road Baptist Church Hall to listen to Michael Benclowe’s informative and entertaining talk about the ‘Wonderful Wildlife of Sussex’. He focused on insects and birds and with the help of numerous excellent photographs he picked out the highlights from a number of the Sussex Wildlife Trust nature reserves. On a cold February evening it was good to listen to Nightjars, Wheatears and stridulating crickets, reminding ourselves that spring is just around the corner!
