Community competition for climate change resilience

Community groups in Sussex can apply for a £500 grant to help create climate change resilience in their local community thanks to David Saddington and other speakers at the January 2020 Landscape Innovation Conference,  organised by Sussex Wildlife Trust and the University of Sussex.
 
Fran Southgate, Living Landscapes Advisor at Sussex Wildlife Trust said, ‘We are keen for young people, community groups, social enterprise, community interest companies, schools and student associations to apply with ideas for projects to help combat our current climate emergency in their local area. 

‘We are also grateful to our conference speakers who have made this funding available by waiving their speaker fees to promote climate resilience. 

‘Groups or individuals can apply, and we are looking forward to receiving some novel and innovative ideas for both practical and creative projects.’ 

The competition will be judged by a professional panel, and the winner announced at the Landscape Innovation Conference at the University of Sussex on 23rd January 2020. 

You do not have to be a conference delegate to win the prize, but projects must be based in Sussex. The winner will be asked to provide a short report with photos showing the progress and completion of the work.

    Hiya,
    Is there anywhere that outlines some ideas for what you could apply for? I’m part of an allotment group and was thinking along the lines of water butts and encouraging pollinators. Is this the correct kind of thinking?

    We want people to be creative with their ideas, so we don’t want to be too prescriptive. However, the ideas that you describe are fine. It may be worth taking some time to see if you can find a way to make your ideas stand out from the crowd a bit and/or involve the wider allotment community. Please do apply though. I can’t promise anything, but we are hoping to receive lots of applications, and although through the competition we will only be able to fund one project, I am hoping to be able to promote everyone else’s project ideas/applications at the conference we are holding in January to see if we can get further funding.
