Eastbourne Local Members Group

Twenty three members of our local group met in the car park at Butt’s Brow in warm sunshine and light winds. With fine views to Hastings in the east and Firle Beacon to the west we set off on a gentle circular walk. Chalk grassland plants such as Field Scabious, Knapweed, Wild Marjoram and Thyme were in full bloom. Meadow Browns, Marbled Whites, Gatekeepers and Skippers were flitting amongst the longer grasses and Red Admirals, Peacocks, Commas and Whites were feeding on Brambles, Thistles and Hemp Agrimony. 

A pair of Ravens flew overhead accompanied by a small group of high flying Swifts. Linnets, a Buzzard and a very smart male Stonechat provided good photo opportunities. 

As we approached the top of Willingdon Hill we were treated to fine views of a Brown Argus, Wall Brown and a stunning Adonis Blue. Returning to the car park a couple of Six-Spot Burnet moths were spotted on Scabious flowers and a wonderful Hummingbird Hawkmoth was feeding on Buddleia blooms.
