When the Sussex Wildlife Trust responds to any public consultation our response is academic, based on evidence and policy, tied into our organisation’s aims and our 20 year vision for wildlife in Sussex. Our response to the Arundel Bypass options is involving the whole conservation policy team, as there are over 1000 pages of documentation to read.

But our reaction to proposals like this is far from just an academic response. Watching the aerial footage of the proposed routes, knowing how much ancient and wildlife-rich habitat is at risk, it’s hard not to get emotional.

If you want to know more about the proposed options before you respond to the consultation (deadline 16th October), want to get a stronger sense of what these options mean for the landscape, communities and wildlife, then click the link to find out more about a walk organised by Arundel SCATE this Sunday 17th September at 10.30am.

This is a gentle walk along part of proposed bypass options 3 and 5a, with a stop for refreshments. Dogs on leads and children able to walk for an hour are very welcome. Please get a better sense of the different proposals by coming to see where the options will cut through the Arun Valley water meadows, ancient woodland and the South Downs National Park.
