Art Wall goes up in the Discovery Centre

The Friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve have been working together with the management team in the Discovery Centre to create a focal point for local artists within the building.

Morgan, who co-runs Avocet Gallery with husband Peter Greenhalf, approached James Tomlinson and asked him to help build an 'Art Wall' for the Discovery Centre. The aim is to celebrate the work of local professional and skilled amateur artists.

The wall has been carefully designed so it doesn’t affect the wood cladding of the Centre. It provides a well-lit hanging space for artwork. The Art Wall will feature inspiring nature-based art through the year. 

It has opened with a display of work by artist Robert Greenhalf, who has a new art book out called Tidelines for sale in the Discovery Centre shop, and who designed the Plover Wall in the Centre, representing all the people who kindly donated to the Buy a Bird Scheme to help build the Discovery Centre.

JT Conservation donated the materials needed. James and friend Donald set to work off-site to put it together. They then took it apart and re-assembled it in the Centre.

 James Tomlinson will be the third artist to display for a month in the new year, after Friends' Chair Cliff Dean and Reserve Manager Barry Yates.
