Conservation Volunteer as a part of a work party - Hastings Area

Overview of the role:
This is a practical conservation group that works under the guidance of our Volunteer Reserve Manager and Rangers at our Hastings area reserves. Marline Valley is a wonderful mix of semi-natural ancient woodland, unimproved meadows and a classic Sussex ghyll stream situated on the edge of Hastings. Filsham Reedbed is one of the largest surviving reedbeds in Sussex and is home to many birds, including breeding warblers during the summer. Gillham Wood is a small oasis of woodland in Cooden, just west of Bexhill, a remnant of a once larger wooded area. Flatropers Wood, in the far east of the county around the village of Beckley, is one of the quietest and well wooded parts of Sussex, it's just over 37 hectares of mixed woodland, sunny open paths and rides, and ponds and streams.
Type of tasks you will be involved with:
A variety of work depending upon the reserve, tasks including glade maintenance, coppicing, path clearance, gate and fence repairs, bracken cutting and scrub clearance in meadows. At Filsham, tasks also include scrub and reed cutting, maintaining paths for visitor access, and maintenance and repairs of boardwalk and  fences / bridges.
Experience/Skills Required:
No experience is required, just enthusiasm, and being moderately fit is ideal, as tasks involve some degree of manual / physical work. Volunteers should wear old clothes and sturdy footwear; they should bring food, drink, plenty of enthusiasm and gardening gloves if they have them.
Days/Times we would like you to be available:
The group meets twice a month on a Thursday. We would like volunteers to be available regularly, but it is possible to sign up for sessions that suit individual availability and task location.

Health and Safety briefings are given, tools and training are provided. Travel expenses can be paid when agreed in advance. Volunteering with this group is fun and volunteer days provide a fantastic opportunity to learn first hand and from others about the local environment.
